Today...
  • 0.9 billion people do not have access to drinking water;
  • 2.5 billion people do not have adequate sanitation;
  • 10,000 people, 5,000 of whom are children under the age of 6, die every day of diseases caused by a lack of water;
  • 18 million children cannot attend school because of their water duties for their families;
  • water is still not recognised as a human right!
The 'Water Messengers' campaign was launched by GREEN on the occasion of World Water Day 2009 in order to put the theme of water on the political agenda in Brussels, Wallonia, Belgium, Europe and the United Nations.

The objective of this campaign is for water to be recognised as a human right..

The 'Water Messengers' campaign is taking place in France, Italy, Canada and Brazil. This international movement was launched on the initiative of Danielle Mitterrand.
